Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. The village is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other small-town tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area.
Hello, my name is Siomara Gabriela Rocio Nas Ruiz. I was born on June 24, 2008. I am a healthy child. I have three brothers and one sister. My father’s name is Gregorio and he works as a farmer. My mother’s name is Regina and she is a housewife. We live with my grandparents because we do not have our own house. We split the expenses with my grandparents. The house is made of cement block with a concrete floor. The roof is constructed in such a way that an additional floor can be added later on. We have water and electricity. The house has four rooms and a separate kitchen. I am in the 5th grade. My favorite color is yellow and my favorite animal is the dog. The foods that I like best are apples and traditional chicken soup. In my free time, I like to play dolls. My family attends Prince of Peace Church.
With much love and many blessings,
Siomara Gabriela Rocio Nas Ruiz
