My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. Both Quiche Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry) inhabit the village. The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes usually constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small and specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers, and many other small-town tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is extremely high, and the children are very needy.

I greet you fondly, hoping you are doing well. This is Evelin Yuleysi Abigail Gomez Gomez, and I want to tell you a little about my life. I was born on December 13, 2018. Today, I am a healthy 5-year-old. I still do not attend school because of my age. One of my favorite hobbies is painting. My favorite color is pink and I love eating spaghetti. I like domestic animals, but my favorite one is the cat. I only live with my parents. I am an only child in my family. My father's name is Pedro Gomez Calachij, and he works as a nurse to support our family economically. My mother is Nora Rosibel Gomez Castro, and she dedicates her full time to the housework and taking care of me. Fortunately, my parents are doing well. I attend a Christian Church with them.

We live in a rented house and pay Q550=$71.13 monthly to use one room. The house is made of bricks with a concrete roof and granite floor. Three other families live in the house, so we must share the kitchen, electricity, and running water. At the end of the month, the expenses for the services are divided among all the families. We wish to have our own house, so I beg you to join us in praying to make it true. In advance, may the Lord reward your kindness! The feeding program is a 10-minute walk from where I live. I enjoy making new friends and having warm food for free there. I say goodbye to you now, but I want you to know that my mom helped me to give all this information to a teacher of the LW evangelism team. See you later!

In the name of Jesus,

Evelin Yuleysi Abigail Gomez Gomez
