My Story

I hope from the bottom of my heart that you are in good health and receiving the Lord`s blessings with your loved ones. In this opportunity, I want to share with you some news about my family and me. I am Micaela Hernandez Barrera and I am 19 years old. At the moment, we are still attending the Catholic Church on Monday. We are grateful to the Living Water evangelism team who shared the gospel with us. My mother`s name is Maria Barrera Jimon, and she is 50 years old. Nowadays, she continues doing chores at home, and she raises hens, turkeys, and pigs for selling to get some income. My father`s name is Mateo Hernandez Quino and he is 52 years old.  He earns a living by working as a farmer and day laborer in order to support the family. We grow corn and black beans for our family’s consumption. Thank God, all my family is in good health.

This year I am in 6th grade at school. I am receiving face-to-face classes, and this year I am learning a lot. Thank God, my parents are making an effort to support us with school expenses, and it is very difficult for them because they are supporting three of my siblings and me, and they do not have a stable job. I want to let you know that I work in a tortillas business every Sunday to get some income to help my family. My native language is Maya Quiche, but I want to learn Spanish to improve my communication with other people. In the future, I would like to travel to Guatemala City and look for a job in order to help my family. My favorite celebration of the year is Christmas because we remember Jesus’ birth and enjoy eating “tamales” (a typical dish). I love to play soccer. What I prefer to drink is “Incaparina” (a hot drink made with corn and soy flour). For my birthday, I celebrate with a delicious lunch and a cake. My family is grateful to LW because we have been blessed in different ways with meals, medical and dental attention, and spiritual support. I also feel so happy when I receive the Christmas gift at year`s end. We are a humble and big family, so our current needs are corn and groceries. May God bless you richly!

With lots of Love,

Micaela Hernandez Barrera
