Dueñas
Guatemala

Dueñas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Dueñas is quiet and sometimes difficult.
My name is Jonathan Denilzon Hernandez Lopez, and I am six years old. I was born on August 3, 2016. I am a healthy boy. My father works in a bakery in a nearby town, and he supplies our needs. My mother works as a domestic employee, and she contributes with the home expenses. I have one brother. My family and I attend Foursquare Church. I am in kindergarten. In my free time, I like to play football. My favorite color is red, and my favorite animal is the deer. I love to eat sausage with potatoes. I am very quiet and obedient. Sometimes, I get sick from flu, but I am so grateful to be part of the feeding program because now, I will have the benefit of attending the LW clinic. We live in my grandfather´s house, and it is made of block walls, cement roof and concrete floor. The house has three rooms; we use one room with a separate kitchen. We share the house with my grandparents, uncles and cousins. We have running water and electricity; my parents pay some money for these services to my grandparents. We have dogs and cats at home. We would like to buy some furniture because our furniture is old; this is one of our biggest needs. I walk about three minutes to attend the feeding program.
Blessings and much love,
Jonathan Denilzon Hernandez Lopez
