Jocotenango, where your child lives, is in the state of Sacatepéquez, Guatemala and is a suburb of Antigua. It is an urban environment and is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). Most of the children attend school, but financial hardship affects many families and forces most of the children to leave after the sixth grade. Only one out of ten children finish high school. Children in this area face temptations from gangs and drugs.
Hello! I am Amaya Renata Chamorro Golon. I was born in Antigua Guatemala on June 9th of 2018, and I am already 6 years old. I attend kindergarten this year. I love cats and my favorite color is purple. The foods I love are pizza and oatmeal. I enjoy playing with my dolls. I live happily with my mother and one sister. Thank God, we are in good health. My mother´s name is Alba Maria Chamorro Golon. She is a single parent and works as a secretary for a sawmill to supply our needs. Nevertheless, she does not earn very much, and we have difficulties economically.
My family and I attend a Christian Church. I thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to be registered in the feeding program; I take 30 minutes by bus to arrive to the program. We live in my grandmother´s house and my uncles and aunts live there too; we are five families living there. There are 7 rooms, and the kitchen is separated. Three rooms are made of concrete blocks with ceramic floor. The other fours rooms are made of tin sheets and cement floor. We have running water and electricity services; all members of the families contribute to pay for those services. There are three cats and two dogs. For the time being that is all. May God bless you!
Bunch of hugs,
Amaya Renata Chamorro Golon
