My Story

Hello! My name is Maria Angela Paz Hernandez de Ruano, and I am writing this letter to tell you about my life. I was born on September 29, 1951, so I am now 72 years old. My husband’s name is Adrian Ruano Salguero, and we have been married for 50 years. We have one son and three daughters; they are already adults. We are elderly people, so we no longer work. Thank God, I am in good health, but my husband is suffering from the sciatic nerve; he can hardly walk. Our children support us with Q 400.00 quetzals ($53.00) per month, but it is not enough to cover all our needs. We are frequently in need of groceries. My husband used to tend his second-hand clothes store, but he had to stop working due to his health problem. We are sad for everything we are living but we know God will not leave us forsaken.

We are living in a rented house with one of our daughters and her two children. The house has three rooms and one kitchen, and it is made of concrete block with a tin sheet roof and concrete floor. We only use one of those rooms. We have running water and electricity. My children pay these bills as well as the rent payment which is Q 1,500.00 quetzals ($200.00) per month. The house is small, and it is not in good condition. It feels so hot inside because the roof is very low, so we have to go outside to get some fresh air; fortunately, we have a small yard to do it. We have one dog as a pet. We are attending LW Church called Liberty. I am happy to be part of the feeding program, and I walk for 5 minutes to arrive there.
