My Story

Hello! How are you doing? My name is Yasmin Sofia, and I want to tell you about my news through this letter. My family and I still attend Restoration Church on Sundays. Fortunately, my whole family is in good health. The one who covers all the expenses and needs at home is my mom. Her name is Yasmin Yaneth Alvarez Yoque, and she is 33 years old. She sells pork rinds, chuchitos (this dish is made with corn dough stuffed with chicken or pork and tomato sauce), and rellenitos (this dish is made with sweet mashed plantains stuffed with a mixture of fried beans, chocolate, and cinnamon). My maternal grandmother, Maria Margarita Yoque, is 66 years old. She has a small grocery store where she gets her income. She also helps us economically. As for pets, let me tell you that we have three cats at home.

Now, I want to tell you more about me. I am 9 years old, and I am healthy. This year, I attended school as a third grader. That made me feel encouraged to continue learning because it was much better. I hope to continue receiving face-to-face classes next year. My mom did her best to support my school supplies, but it was very challenging because our economic situation has not gone well. We need a new closet and bed. I would love to continue studying to become a lawyer. I also would love to speak English someday. My favorite holiday is Christmas because I love wearing new clothes and burning small sparkles. I like drinking horchata (it is a typical beverage made of milk rice, sugar, cinnamon, and water). When my birthday comes, I love having a delicious meal to celebrate with my family. I like sports, but my favorite is soccer. To end this letter, I want you to know that my grandma helped me to give all this information to a member of the LW staff. This project has been a tremendous blessing for many needy people like me. See you later!

Kisses and hugs,

Yasmin Sofia Alvarez Yoque
