Biography

ZA4526

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley.  The village is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish.  Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe.  Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other small-town tradesmen.   It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area.

Hello, my name is Abner Jadiel Rosales Rosales.  I was born on October 10, 2011.  I am suffering with from two hernias, but because of a lack of resources, I have not been able to have surgery to repair them.  I have only one brother.  I walk about 15 minutes to get to the feeding program.  I live with my mother and my grandparents.  My parents are separated.  My mother’s name is Mariela and she is a tortillera (she makes tortillas) in a stall with my grandmother.  The house in which we live is made of adobe with a tile roof and a cement floor.  It has five rooms and small space where we cook.  We have water and electricity.  My family does not travel to the coast to work as many families do.  We have one dog.  I am in 2nd grade.  My favorite color is green and my favorite animal is the dog.  The foods that I like best are apples and caldo de pollo (traditional chicken soup with vegetables).  In my free time, I like to play soccer and to play on the cell phone.  Currently, my family does not attend church.

With much love and many blessings,

Abner Jadiel Rosales Rosales
