My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiche is always a challenge.

I fondly greet you in the name of Jesus, hoping you are doing well. I am Elena Rosio Cac Naz, and I am writing this letter to tell you that I am in good health, thank God. I turned six years old on February 28th. Because of my age, I am still in kindergarten. I spend my free time playing with my dolls. I love the color pink. My favorite animal is the cat. My favorite meal is fried chicken. Thank God, my father and siblings are in good health, but my mother suffers from gastritis, and she doesn´t have any treatment for lack of resources. My father´s name is Manuel Cac Sicajau. He works at the terminal as a loader of packages in the market to supply our home needs. My mother´s name is Josefina Naz Aguilar de Cac. She works embroidering typical blouses and raises some hens to sell. She contributes to our expenses at home. We live on our own property; there are 3 rooms, and the kitchen is separate. The house is made of adobe, tile roof and concrete floor. There are running water and electricity services, and my grandmother pays for them every month. I live 25 minutes away from the feeding program. It is a great blessing for me to be registered in the program. We attend a Christian Church. As a family, our main need are groceries. I want to ask for your prayers for my family. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal information.

Hugs with much love
