My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley.  The village is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe.  Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small, specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other smalltown tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area.  Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high, and the children are very needy.

How wonderful is to greet you for the first time. I bless you in the name of Jesus and send you many hugs from Guatemala. I am Katy Fabiola Gutierrez Musia. I am the daughter of Encarnación Gutierrez Garcia and Juana Musia de la Cruz. I live happily with them. My father works by carrying heavy bags and farming the land. My mother is a housewife and sometimes washes clothes for others to improve the incomes. I have two brothers and two sisters. One brother and one sister are registered in the feeding program like me. We attend there together and walk for 15 minutes to arrive.

I was born on May 24, 2020. I am 4 years old, and I do not attend school. My favorite color is pink and the animal I like the most is the rabbit. I love eating fried chicken. My hobbies are playing soccer and with toy dishes. Thanks to God, we are all healthy at home. Sadly, we do not attend any church at the moment, but I hope to attend one soon. Our humble house belongs to my mother. It has two rooms made of tin sheet walls and roof with dirt floor. There is no separate kitchen, so we use one of the rooms to cook inside. One of our neighbors shares electricity and running water with us. We share the payment as well. We do not have any domestic animals. Corn and food are our greatest necessities. I know you have just met me, but I would like to ask your prayers for us because our dream is to live in a better condition since the tin sheets of our room are damaged. During the rainy season, the water comes in, so we are praying for the opportunity to build an adobe or block room.
