My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. Both Quiche Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry) inhabit the village. The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes usually constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small and specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers, and many other small-town tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is extremely high, and the children are very needy.

This is Vicky Susely Lares Coj, and I greet you fondly in the name of Jesus. I will tell you a little about myself, but before starting, I want you to know that my mom helped to give all this information to a teacher of the LW evangelism team. I was born on July 21, 2019. Today, I am a healthy 5-year-old girl. I still do not attend school, so I stay home and play with my dolls. My favorite color is red and I love eating scrambled eggs. My favorite domestic animals are goats. The people who I live with are my parents, grandparents, and brother. I have one brother, but no sisters. My father is Juan Lares Gomez. He works by assisting masons while my mom dedicates her full time to taking care of our family. Her name is Elena Coj de la Cruz.

My grandparents own the house where we live. It is made of adobe, a tile roof, and a dirt floor. It has three rooms, a separate kitchen, electricity, and running water. We pay for the running water annually and the electricity monthly. We raise hens and pigs at home for our consumption. The feeding program is a little far from where I live. Therefore, my mom takes me there by taxi and the trip usually takes us 30 minutes from our house. My family is grateful to LW-Adopt A Child for blessing me with food for free. We are a low-income family and most of our needs are groceries. So, I beg you to pray for all of us. I say goodbye to you now, but if you want to hear something else about my life, feel free to ask me.

Best wishes,

Vicky Susely Lares Coj
