Zona 5, where your child lives, is located in a slum area of Guatemala City. An extremely poor area, our program is squeezed in among the shanty dwellings built over an old city dump. Many houses in this area are without toilets or running water and are assembled with scrap wood, sheet metal, and cardboard. Zone 5 is considered one of the most dangerous areas of Guatemala City. It is controlled by gangs and drug pushers. Robberies and murders are common in this area. Public education is available - however, many cannot afford it. Life in Zone 5 is very difficult.
Hello! My name is Katerine Alejandra Mijangos Lopez. I was born on August 20, 2009 and I am 9 years old. I am in good health and I attend the Zone 5 feeding program. My mother’s name is Mirna Elizabeth Mijangos Lopez and she is a salesperson of many types of products. Unfortunately, I did not have much information about my father because my mother does not talk us about him much. My mother lives with a man named Wilfredo. He is retired, and he helps my mother with our household expenses. We rent the house is which we live. It has four rooms including the kitchen. The walls of the house are adobe with a dirt floor. The roof is made of wood, and we actually have a second level. We have running water and electricity. I have 3 brothers and 3 sisters. I am in the 4th grade this year, and when I am not in school, I spend my time playing with my dolls, playing hide and seek or jumping rope. My favorite color is pink, and my favorite animal is the dog. The food that I like to eat the most is noodles with sauce. My family attends a catholic church.
With much love and many blessings,
Katerine Alejandra Mijangos Lopez
