My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiche is always a challenge

It is a wonderful day to say hello and tell you a little bit about my life and my family. My name is Rosa Griselda Xirum de la Cruz. I was born on May 15th, 2019. I am 5 years old. I am a healthy and happy girl. I enjoy playing with dolls and tag with my sisters. My favorite color is blue, and I love cows. I love to eat chicken soup. I want to introduce my family. My father´s name is Daniel Elias Xirum de la Cruz and my mother´s name is Sara de la Cruz Morente. I live with my mother and my sisters because my father left to go to The United States. He traveled there three years ago, and he works cleaning buildings. Thanks to God, he sends us money to cover our expenses. My mother is a housewife and takes care of us. We are members of a Christian Church. We live in my grandmother´s house with her and my cousins. The house has three rooms and a separate kitchen. It is made of adobe walls, tin sheet roof and concrete floor. We have running water and electricity; my grandmother pays for these services.  I want to ask for your prayers for my family and that our Lord provides us with the necessities at home. Our greatest needs are corn and groceries. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading my letter. May God bless you in everything you do!

Lots of hugs,

Rosa Griselda Xirum de la Cruz
