My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. Both Quiche Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry) inhabit the village. The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes usually constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small and specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers, and many other small-town tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is extremely high, and the children are very needy.

My name is Nataly Liliana Dubon Luis, and it is a great pleasure to greet you. I was born on January 3, 2018. Fortunately, I am in good health. I am 6 years old and I attend school as a kindergartener. My favorite color is pink and I like cats. I enjoy playing with my dolls and my favorite food is spaghetti. Now, let me tell you a little about my family. I have two sisters, but no brothers. My father is Lucas Alberto Dubon Dubon. He is doing well and works hard as a farmer and day laborer. My mother's name is Florinda Luis de la Cruz, and she also doing well. She works as a day laborer to help at home with her income. I attend the Catholic Church with my family.

We live with my maternal grandmother at her house. It is made of adobe, a tin sheet roof, and a dirt floor. It has two rooms, a separate kitchen, and running water. One of our neighbors shares the electricity with us. We share the expenses for the service at the end of the month. We raise hens and pigs at home for our consumption. My family is grateful to LW-Adopt A Child for making me part of the feeding program and blessing me with delicious food. My mom takes my sisters and me by tuk-tuk to get there and the trip usually takes us five minutes from our house. I say goodbye to you now, but I appreciate you taking the time to read about me. My mom helped me to give all this information to a teacher of the LW evangelism team.
