Zona 5, where your child lives, is located in a slum area of Guatemala City. An extremely poor area, our program is squeezed in among the shanty dwellings built over an old city dump. Many houses in this area are without toilets or running water and are assembled with scrap wood, sheet metal, and cardboard. Zone 5 is considered one of the most dangerous areas of Guatemala City. It is controlled by gangs and drug pushers. Robberies and murders are common in this area. Public education is available - however, many cannot afford it. Life in Zone 5 is very difficult.
Hello! My name is Demian Gabriel Toj Sierra. I was born on January 9, 2015 and I am four years old. I am in good health and I attend the Zone 5 feeding program. My father’s name is Oscar Humberto Toj Perez, and my mother’s name is Maritza Magali Sierra Aguilar de Toj. Unfortunately, my parents separated about 2 years ago. We receive money from my father to help us with our expenses through the court system. My mother is not working right now, so we live off the money that my father provides. We rent one room of a house. We do not have a stove to cook on, so have to buy food that is already prepared. We build a small fire in order to heat our water. Our room has cement block walls and a cement floor. The roof of the room is constructed in such a way that an additional floor could be added in the future. I have only one sister. I am in kindergarten this year, and when I am not in school, I spend my time playing with my blocks, balls, and toy cars. My favorite animal is the giraffe, and my favorite food is fried eggs. My family attends a church.
With much love and many blessings,
Demian Gabriel Toj Sierra
