My Story

Nueva Esperanza, which means New Hope, is located in a slum area of Guatemala City, Guatemala. An extremely poor area, our program is squeezed in among the shanty dwellings built over an old city dump. Many houses in this area are without toilets or running water and are assembled with scrap wood, sheet metal, and cardboard. Zone 5, where Nueva Esperanza is located, is considered one of the most dangerous areas of Guatemala City. It is controlled by gangs and drug pushers. Robberies and murders are common in this area. Public education is available - however, many cannot afford it.

Hello, my name is Liam Isaac Vit Garcia. I am so pleased to greet you today through this small introduction. I hope you enjoy learning a little bit about me. I am 9 years old. My birthday is December 22, 2015. I live in Zone 5 of Guatemala City. I am in third grade now. In my free time I love playing with spinning tops, coloring, and drawing. My favorite color is gray. I have one brother, and we live with our dad in my grandma’s house. My dad’s name is Pedro Luis Vit Castro. He works in a call center. My mom is Nancy Vanessa Garcia Sanjay. She left us three years ago. We don’t know much about her now. My brother’s name is Rodrigo Sebastian Vit Garcia. We love going to the feeding program together. Some of my aunts also live in the same house as us. There are three rooms, and the three of us share one room. The house is made of cinder blocks with a tin roof and concrete floors. My favorite animal is a dog, but we don’t have any dogs. We only have two cats. We have lived with my grandmother for some times. She takes care of us and is like a mother to us, she has taught us so much and we learn a lot from her. My brother and I walk to the program each week. It usually takes about fifteen minutes to get there. They always serve us delicious food. My favorite food to eat is spaghetti. As a family, our biggest need is groceries, and my brother and I need some school shoes. We know God provides everything we have, so we trust in Him to work in His special ways. I pray He will bless you as well. I send you much love. Goodbye for now.

Many blessings,
Liam Isaac Vit Garcia
