Pasojoc I

Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major corps. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.
Hello! This is Carlos Delvin Lainer Calachij de la Cruz. I was born in Zacualpa, Quiche on October 2, 2019 and I am 7 years old. My mother`s name is Dora Lucrecia de la Cruz Gutierrez de Calachij and my father`s name is Rolando Calachij Ajqui. They are doing well and I live with them at home. My father makes a living as a typical day laborer while my mother is dedicating her time to the family and household duties. In addition, she raises hens. I have two sisters and one brother and my two sisters are registered in the Feeding program. I live in my father`s house and we have two adobe rooms with tin sheet roof and dirt floors. We get water from a nearby river by connecting a hose. We also use solar panels. We have hens, but we would like to have some chicks. We are needy people and our priorities are food and clothing.
By the grace of God, my whole family and I are in good health. We are members of Christian Life Church. I will be attending the Feeding Center with my two sisters, and we need to walk for one hour to come because we take our lunch at the local school from Pasojoc I. I like to play with them. My favorite meal is fried chicken, and I love the color green and dogs. I am not attending school yet, but I will be enrolled next year. I hope you like to read my news. I love you in Jesus’ love!
Warm regards,
Carlos Delvin Lainer Calachij de la Cruz
