Jocotenango, where your child lives, is in the state of Sacatepequez, Guatemala and is a suburb of Antigua. It is an urban environment and is inhabited by both Quiche Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). Most of the children attend school, but financial hardship affects many families and forces most of the children to leave after the sixth grade. Only one out of ten children finish high school. Children in this area face temptations from gangs and drugs.
Good morning! This is Herbert Santiago Godinez Miculax and I am a healthy eight-year-old-boy. I was born on July 11, 2018 in Antigua Guatemala. I am in 1st grade this year and I love dogs. My past times are to watch TV, to play and to eat. I like salads and red is my favorite color. At the moment, we are not attending any church. My father`s name is Herbert Geovany Godinez Marquez and my mother`s name is Erika Paola Miculax Mazate. Both of them are doing their best for me. My mother makes a living by working in the maintenance area from Jocotenango Municipality. She sweeps the streets. My father works as a vet in Ciudad Vieja town. Thankfully, we are doing well.
We live in my paternal grandmother`s house and my father`s family lives with us. We have one room made of block and tin sheet roof with a cemented floor. We do not have a separated kitchen, so my mother cooks in the same room. We have running water and electricity, and my relatives share the payments with my parents. There is a cat and a dog in our house. We are a needy family and my priority need is a bed because my bed is older and damaged. I walk for thirty minutes to come to the Program and my family is thankful for the opportunity to belong to LW Adopt-A-Child. Thank you for taking the time to read my information. I send you many blessings!
Have a wonderful day,
Herbert Santiago Godinez Miculax
