My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

I am so happy to be able to be a child of Living Water feeding program, and it makes me happy to share a little bit about myself. This is Maria Micaela Gonzalez Chitic. I was born on June 27, 2021. I am already 5 years old. I am not attending school yet because of my young age. I enjoy playing with construction plastic blocks at home. My favorite color is blue. The animal I like the most is the cat. I love eating fish and beans. I live with my mother, two brothers, and one sister. Thankfully, my whole family and I are doing well. My father´s name is Manuel Gonzalez Guarcas. He traveled to the United States two years ago, and he works washing dishes in a restaurant. He keeps in touch with us and sends us financial support every month. My mother´s name is Francisca Chitic Tiniguar. She takes care of the house, weaves and embroider blouses. She also raises hens, turkeys and pigs. Our pets are a cat and a dog.

My father owns the house in which we live. There are three adobe rooms with a tin sheet roof and a cement floor. There is a kitchen. We have running water and electricity services; my father sends us money to pay for those services. As a family, our greatest needs are groceries, corn and clothes. For now, we are not attending any church. I am very happy to be part of the feeding program, and I walk forty minutes to get there. My mom usually takes me to the program.
