My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello, I want to tell you that I am so happy to be able to greet you today and tell you a little bit about myself through Living Water! I am very happy to share my information through this. My full name is Nancy Paloma Garcia Ramos. I was born on January 21, 2019, in Zacualpa, Quiche, Guatemala. I am now 7 years old, and thanks to God, I am healthy. I am in first grade this year. I like to play with my dolls in my free time. My favorite color is red. The animal I like the most is the rabbit. I love eating fried chicken. I have one brother and one sister. Thankfully, my whole family is doing well.

My father´s name is Edgar Garcia Tzoy. He was working in the United States, and unfortunately, he was deported last year. He was living with my mom in the USA. However, when he came back to Guatemala did not want to live with my siblings and me. So, he got separated from my mother, and now, he is not giving us any support. So, please pray for him so that our Lord touches his heart and changes his mind so he will support us. My mother´s name is Esperanza Ramos Xorxe. She is living and working in the USA. She works butchering chickens and sends us monthly support. Thanks to God, my maternal grandmother is taking care of my siblings and me. She is Tomasa Xorxe and she is in good health. She administrates the money that my mom sends to us. She does the household work, and she also raises hens, cows and pigs. We are members of the Full Gospel Christian Church. The house in which we live belongs to my grandfather´s sister. She has loaned the house to my grandpa. There are three adobe rooms with a tin sheet roof and a cement floor. The kitchen is separate. We have running water and electricity services. The water is a yearly payment, and the electricity is a monthly payment. Our greatest needs are groceries and corn. I am so blessed to be enrolled in the feeding program, and I take 20 minutes to get there by bicycle. One of my uncles accompanies us.
