My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small, attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

It is a beautiful day to send my greetings, and I am so excited to share a little about me through Living Water! My full name is Herberth Jared Gomez de Paz. My birth date is July 24, 2016. I am now 10 years old. I am attending third grade this year. My hobby is playing football. My favorite color is blue, and the animal I like the most is the hen. I love eating steak. I have two sisters. By the grace of God, we are in good health. We attend the Assembly of God Church.

My father´s name is Emmanuel de Jesus Gomez Chuluc. He works as a day laborer and also as a security guard. Luckily, he provides for the family´s needs. My mother´s name is Juana de Paz Brito. She does the chores at home and cares for the family. She raises hens and pigs. Thank God, we live on our own property. There is one room and a kitchen. The house is made entirely of tin sheets and a cement floor. We have water and electricity; my parents pay for them. I am so grateful to be enrolled in the Chixocol feeding program; I get there in 20 minutes by microbus. My mother takes my siblings and me to the program. I have to say goodbye now.
