My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. The village is inhabited by both Quiche Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other small-town tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high and the children are very needy.

Hello! It is such a blessing to greet you by means of this letter. My name is Josue Isaias Chingo Tzoy and I am so happy to be part of the feeding program in Zacualpa village. I am 4 years old and I usually walk for fifteen minutes to enjoy my meals. My mother is the one who takes me there. I was born on October 2, 2021. I am a healthy boy and I still do not attend school. Some of my interests are playing with toy cars and having fried chicken for my meals. My favorite animals are monkeys and I like the color red. Thankfully, I am in good health and I have a lovely family. I live with my parents and older brother, Rudy.

My family and I attend a nearby Christian Church. My father is Juan Isaias Chingo Jimon and he makes a living as a mechanic. My mother is Catarina Evelin Tzoy Ruiz and she is a very busy housewife. She also works as a day laborer to help my father with the expenses. We live in rented house, which costs Q600=$78.66 monthly. It is a two-room house with a separate kitchen, electricity, and running water. It is made of bricks and the floor is ceramic. At the moment, we do not have domestic animals. Some of our greatest needs are groceries and clothes. Therefore, I kindly ask you to pray for us. I will leave you now, but I hope you enjoyed my information. Have a wonderful day!

Sincerely yours,

Josue Isaias Chingo Tzoy
