My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiche is always a challenge. 

Being part of the feeding program has been a wonderful experience. I send you warm regards from Jefferson Danilo Alexander Tzoy Barrera. I am 7 years old now. I was born on April 10, 2019.  I attend 1^st grade. I enjoy playing soccer. My favorite animal is the cat and I love the color yellow. The meal that I like the most is chicken stew. I have been blessed with a beautiful family. My father´s name is Daniel Tzoy Ixcotoyac. He left to go to the United States in order to find better job opportunities. He works in a dairy farm. He is in touch with the family and he sends us money every fifteen days. My mother´s name is Gregoria Barrera Us. She is a housewife. She earns money raising hens and sheep to sell. My family and I are doing well and staying healthy. I am an only child. My family attends the Catholic Church.

My grandmother lets us live in her house with her. There are four rooms but we only use one of them. It has a separate kitchen. The house is made of block walls, tin sheet roof and ceramic floor. We get water from a hand-dug well and we have electricity. My father pays for this service. One of our main needs is groceries. It takes me about 30 minutes walking to get from home to the feeding program. My prayers for each one who makes the feeding program possible.
