My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiche is always a challenge. 

I am glad to write you through this letter and tell you about me. Thank you for your contribution, which allows me to be part of the feeding program. Please receive sincere greetings from Wendy Cecilia Cac de la Cruz. I was born on May 11, 2023. I am 3 years old now. I do not attend school yet. I enjoy spending time playing dolls. I love the color yellow and my favorite animals are kittens. I like to eat beef broth. I am healthy. I live with my mother and siblings. My mother is Cecilia Cac de la Cruz. She stays at home, and she earns extra money raising and selling hens. My father does not legally recognize me because when I was born he was In the United States. He keeps in touch with us and helps my mother with some money. His name is Diego Rodriguez Toj. I have one brother and one sister. They attend the feeding program. Thank God, my family is in good health. We are members of an Evangelical Church Pentecostal.

God has blessed us with our own house. There are three rooms and a separate kitchen. These are made of block walls, tin sheet roof and ceramic floor. We have electricity and get water from a hand-dug well. My mother pays for these services. Some of our main needs are groceries and clothes. It takes me about 20 minutes from home to get to the feeding program. I hope you are well along with your loved ones and that you enjoy reading my letter.
