Cuatro Caminos
Guatemala
Child
Cuatro Caminos "four roads", where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Cuatro Caminos is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiché Indians who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak an Indian dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.
Hello, I am David Moises Garcia Perez, and it is a blessing for me to introduce myself to you. I live with my parents Hector Garcia Toj and Ana Morelia Perez de la Cruz. My father works by tending a grocery store while my mother contributes by weaving typical napkins. Thank God, they are healthy. We attend the Catholic Church. Our needs as a family are food and clothes.
I am 4 years old. I was born on October 13, 2021, in Zacualpa Quiche. I am in pre-kinder at school. I like cats. My favorite color is blue. I enjoy eating black beans. In my free time, I like playing soccer and toy cars. I am a healthy boy. I have one brother and two sisters. My mother takes all of us to the feeding program because we are a 45-minute walk from there.
Thankfully, my father owns a house. It has two rooms and a kitchen made of tin sheet roof, adobe walls and cemented floor. We get running water from a nearby river through a hose. We have electricity and my parents pay for the services monthly. Moreover, my paternal grandparents live with us at home. Some of our domestic animals are chickens, pigs and sheep. Thank you so much for reading this. I look forward to writing to you again and telling you news about me.
Many blessings,
David Moises Garcia Perez
