My Story

Cuatro Caminos "four roads", where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala.  Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world.  It is a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa.  Cuatro Caminos is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops.  The Quiché Indians who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization.  They normally speak an Indian dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common.  Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello, I hope you are having a wonderful day. My name is Wendy Fabiola Rosmery Garcia Calachij. I was born on April 23, 2022, in Guatemala. I am a 4-year-old girl. I am not enrolled at school yet. About my health, I am currently having some health problems, but I will be soon checked by the LW doctor. My hobby is playing with dolls. I like cats and the color pink. My favorite food is fried chicken. I have three brothers and two sisters. I enjoy attending the feeding program along with my siblings. We usually walk for 1 hour to get there.

About my house, thankfully, my father owns the one where we live. It has two rooms and one kitchen. The house is made of tin sheet roof, adobe and dirt floors. The kitchen is all made of tin sheets. We have running water and electricity at home. My paternal grandfather shares the water, and we get it to our house through a hose. One of my paternal aunts share electricity with us too, and my father takes turns with her to pay the service monthly. Besides that, we have some domestic animals such as chickens and one pig. Our greatest necessities currently are corn, groceries and clothes.

My biological father´s name is Abraham Gomez Calachij. Unfortunately, he did not legally recognize me because I was born during the Covid-19 Pandemic, and a requirement to legally recognize me was to get the vaccine which he did not want to do. On the other side, my mother Micaela Garcia Calachij agreed to get vaccinated, so I just have her last name. My father earns a living by working as a farmer or day laborer. My mother takes care of us and the house.

This time, I would like to ask for your prayers for both of my parents because they are facing health problems currently. My mother has a hernia. She has been treated in a Public Hospital referred to by the LW clinic. She will need surgery, but she is afraid to take the decision, and the doctor cannot force her to do it. Moreover, my father still has some health problems, but he has been treated at LW Clinics. Well, I have to say goodbye to you but not before blessing you in the name of Jesus. Thank you for your attention. See you!

Kisses and hugs,

Wendy Fabiola Rosmery Garcia Calachij
