My Story

Cuatro Caminos "four roads", where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala.  Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world.  It is a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa.  Cuatro Caminos is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops.  The Quiché Indians who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization.  They normally speak an Indian dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common.  Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello, I am glad to greet you and share with you something about me. Thank you for taking time to read it. My name is Eulalio Elias Ajqui Chach. My parents are Juan Carlos Ajqui Morente and Gregoria Chach Gomez. My mother is a housewife while my father struggles to cover our needs by traveling to the coast to work. He fumigates the coffee plantation. He comes home every month, stays for a week and then comes back to the coast. I have three brothers and one sister. Fortunately, they are all healthy.

I was born in Zacualpa Quiche on July 13, 2022. I am 4 years old and my health is good. I have not been enrolled at school because I am too young. My favorite color is yellow. I like cows. One of my hobbies is playing with toy cars. I enjoy eating fried chicken. My family and I attend the Prince of Peace Church. Like many families, we have needs and our main ones are food and clothes.

Unfortunately, we do not own a house, but my paternal grandmother shares her house with us. One of my aunts also lives there. The house has two rooms and a separate kitchen. We use one of those rooms. There is no running water but there is a nearby river where we can get water for our use. We carry it with plastic jars since it is 5 minutes away from home. There is electricity that should be paid for every month. The house is made of adobe, tin sheet roof and cemented floor. Besides that, we have some chickens that we raise at home. I am grateful for attending the feeding program. I walk for 10 minutes to get there. Alright, I have to say goodbye for now but not before blessing you in the name of Jesus. Have a wonderful day and please take care!

Kisses and hugs,

Eulalio Elias Ajqui Chach
