Cuatro Caminos
Guatemala
Child
Cuatro Caminos "four roads", where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Cuatro Caminos is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major crops. The Quiché Indians who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak an Indian dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.
Hello! I bless you in the name of Jesus, hoping that you are doing well in your country. I am Ingrid Marisol Morente de la Cruz, and I feel excited to tell you about my life and family. My parents are Carlos Morente Luis and Olga de la Cruz Cux. My father sustains us by working as a mason’s helper while my mother takes care of us and does the housework. She improves the income by weaving what people ask like typical blouses, blankets or belts. We do not travel to work at the coast. I have two brothers and one sister, and thanks to God, all are in good health.
About me, well I am a healthy 6-year-old girl. I attend kindergarten this year. I was born in Zacualpa Quiche on October 20, 2019. My hobby is playing with dolls. My favorite color is pink. I like pigeons. I love eating beef soup. I live 5 minutes’ walk from the feeding program, so I attend alone. As a family, we do not attend any church currently. Some of our needs currently are corn and groceries.
We are blessed to own a house. It is a humble two-room house with a separate kitchen made of adobe, tin sheet roof and dirt floor. There is electricity service that my father pays monthly. Besides that, we get our water from a well. We have some domestic animals at home such as guinea fowl, geese, chickens, turkeys and pigeons. Well, I have to say goodbye now. I hope to keep in touch with you and tell you more next time. Have a wonderful day!
Many blessings,
Ingrid Marisol Morente de la Cruz
