My Story

Tunajá is a very primitive area of the state of Quiché, Guatemala.  The inhabitants are Quiché Indians who trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization.  The prevalent language is the Indian dialect - Quiché.  The people are either farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors.  Very little money ever changes hands as they use a barter system.  Public education is available - however, most families cannot afford it.  Electricity and running water are not available in most of the area.  Life in Tunajá is extremely difficult.

Hello, I am Diana Luarca Saquic, and I am happy to be part of the feeding program. This time, I would like to share a little bit of me.  I am a healthy 3-year-old girl. I was born on October 19, 2022, in Zacualpa Quiche. I am still too young to attend school. I spend my time at home playing with dolls and soccer. I like chicken. My favorite color is black. I love eating fried chicken. I have two brothers and two sisters. I attend the program with my mother. We take a bus back and forth from home, and it takes us 15 minutes to get there.

We live in my mother´s house. It is made of adobe, tin sheet roof and cemented floor. We have an artisanal well and pay monthly for the electricity service. The house has 4 rooms and one kitchen. Our domestic animals are chickens and turkeys. As a family, our greatest need is food.

My father´s name is Martin Luarca Mejia. He is a day laborer to support us. He is a healthy man, but this time I would like you to pray for him because he had a motorcycle accident and he broke his right hand. He must use a cast on it for one month or more. For that reason, he is resting at home now. On the other side, my mother´s name is Manuela Saquic Lares. She looks after us and the house. She raises some chickens for our consumption.  As a family, we attend the Catholic Church. Well, this is all for now. I send many kisses and hugs to you. Thank you for loving me from a distance.
