My Story

Tunajá is a very primitive area of the state of Quiché, Guatemala.  The inhabitants are Quiché Indians who trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization.  The prevalent language is the Indian dialect - Quiché.  The people are either farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors.  Very little money ever changes hands as they use a barter system.  Public education is available - however, most families cannot afford it.  Electricity and running water are not available in most of the area.  Life in Tunajá is extremely difficult.

What a blessing that you are interested to know more from me! I am Rufino Solis Garcia, and I am happy to tell you about my family and me. I was born on May 21, 2021, in Joyabaj Quiche. I am 5 years old, and due to that, I am not at school yet. I spend my time playing soccer. I like cats. My favorite color is blue. I enjoy eating fried chicken. Thank God, my health is good. I have two sisters and no brothers.

My father is Enrique Solis Larios. He is not living with us because he traveled to The United States 5 years ago. He is working in an egg packing company. He calls us every week and sends money for our support every 15 days. My mother is Maria Guadalupe Garcia Chich. She takes care of us and the house but works in a hardware store. I stay under the care of my maternal grandmother while my mother is working. They both have good health. We attend the Catholic church.

We live at my paternal grandmother´s house. The house has three rooms made of block, tin sheet roof and cemented floor. There is running water and electricity that should be paid annually and monthly. Our domestic animals are chickens. I like attending the feeding program. My mother usually takes me, and we take a bus for 15 minutes to get there. Alright, I send a strong hug to your family and you and say goodbye for now. I bless you in the name of Jesus.
