My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala.  Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world.  Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen.  The extremely poor live-in houses made of corn stalks.  In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare.  Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors.  Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello! This is Josue Eduardo de Leon Chitic and I was born on August 10, 2022 in Zacualpa, Quiche. I am a healthy four-year-old boy and I like to play with toy cars. I am not studying due to my young age. I like the color blue and dogs. I love to eat noodles and soups. I have three brothers and one sister, and two of them also are registered in the Feeding Program. My mother accompanies us, and we come to the program by bus in 20 minutes. My mother`s name is Ana Chitic Panjoj de Leon, and she raises hens to get some income and support my father with the home expenses. He makes a living as a typical day laborer and he also makes artisanal wells. Recently, he suffered a motorcycle accident, and he has mobility problems because he wears a prothesis which is now damaged and broken. On the other hand, my mother is suffering from an allergy in her body and she has not visited the doctor due to a lack of money. We are needy people and our current needs are groceries, corn and clothing. As a family, we belong to the Assembly of God Christian Church.

By the grace of God, the rest of my family and I are doing well. We live in my father`s house, and we have three rooms with one separated kitchen. The rooms are made of adobe, tin sheet and cemented floors. We have running water and electricity. My father pays the water service once a year and the electricity every month. Thank you for reading my information. I hope you find interesting it. May God bless you!

Huge hugs,

Josue Eduardo de Leon Chitic
