My Story

Duenas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Duenas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

I greet you on this beautiful day and I hope our Lord is blessing you! My name is Angela Lorena Hernandez Santos. My birthdate is September 17, 2016, and I turn 10 years old this year. I am a third-grade student. My favorite color is light blue. I like cats. The meal I love the most is chicken broth. I am a heathy girl, and thanks to God, my family is in good health too. I live with my parents and one brother. Jose Estuardo Hernandez Chuni is my father. He works as a mason and actually, he is working in another department of Guatemala called Quiche. Silvia Noemi Santos Chicojay de Hernandez is my mother. She tries to help my father to supply our needs, and she works as a maid. My family and I are attending the Foursquare Church.

Let me tell you that we are living in my grandfather´s house. There is one room made of metal sheets with blocks. The roof is made of a tin sheet, and the room has a cement floor. My mom cooks in a space outside the room, but it is not a real kitchen. We have running water and electricity. My parents pay the electricity bill, and my grandpa pays for the water. Our pets are a cat and a dog. Our greatest needs include a wardrobe since ours is damaged. We trust in God and his providence. My family and I are so grateful to Living Water and the feeding program for the support I am receiving; it means so much. I live very near the program, and I arrive at the program in two minutes.
