Pasojoc

Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major corps. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.
Hello! It is such a huge blessing to share with you a little about my life. My full name is Wilson Jeordany Poncio Garcia, and I was born on January 19, 2014. I am 12 years old and I have a lot of fun playing soccer. My favorite color is red. I like sheep, and my favorite food is fried chicken. I am in fourth grade and I am grateful to LW for blessing me with delicious meals. I live about one hour away from the feeding program. I am a healthy boy, and I am happy to say that my family is doing well, too. We attend the Catholic Church. The one who supplies our family needs is my father. His name is Roberto Poncio Jimon. He frequently travels to the coast because of work. He makes a living picking coffee beans or taking care of the coffee plantations for two months. He usually has breaks for fifteen days or one month to stay home.
My mother’s name is Luciana Garcia Benito. She is a housewife and works hard by raising and selling chickens, goats, a few cows, and pigs to contribute to the expenses. We also have a dog and a cat at home as pets. About my siblings, let me tell you that some of them already work to help our family a little financially. I have five brothers and six sisters. We are a humble family and most of our needs are groceries, especially corn. My family and I live in our own three-room house with a separated kitchen. It is made of adobe with tile roof and dirt floor. We have electricity and running water. It is time to say goodbye, but I hope you enjoyed reading my information.
Sincerely yours,
Wilson Jeordany Poncio Garcia
