My Story

Duenas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Duenas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

Hello! This is Josue David Polanco Ordonez, and I want to share with you a little about me. I am in good health. I was born on March 20, 2015, so I am 11 years old now. I am attending school, and I am in 5th grade this year. In my free time, I like to draw. My favorite food is fried chicken and rice, and I love the color red. I also like cats. Thank God, I am in good health. I have two brothers, and one of them is registered at the feeding program too. My parents are Bilver Gonzalo Polanco Jimenez and Ana Maria Ordonez Lopez de Polanco. My dad works as a janitor in a company while my mom works hard at home.

We live in our own house, and we share it with my maternal grandparents. Our house has four rooms and a kitchen. It is made of concrete block with a tin sheet roof and concrete floor. Thankfully, we have running water and electricity services. We have one cat and two hens at home. We are a humble family, and our frequent needs are groceries. As a family, we are attending a Foursquare Church. I walk for about 15 minutes to arrive at the feeding program. My parents are very grateful for the opportunity for me to be part of the program, and my mom helped me to write this letter for you. I hope you find it interesting.

Sincerely yours

Josue David Polanco Ordonez
