My Story
Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiche is always a challenge.
Hello! This is Felipe Alejandro Hernandez Nix, and I am writing this letter to tell you how I am. I was born on November 25, 2020, so I am 6 years old and am a pre-kindergarten student. In my spare time, I enjoy playing toy cars. My favorite color is green. I like to eat French fries and I love chicken. My father is Hector Hernandez Gonzalez, and he earns a living making artisanal wells. My mother is a housewife and she does traditional embroidery. I have a sister who attends the feeding program too. Thanks to God´s loving care, we are healthy. My family attends an Adventist Church.
My paternal grandparents share their house with us. There are four rooms and a separate kitchen made of adobe, tin sheet roof and concrete floor. We have well water and electricity. My parents pay these services. We have cows at home. Our greatest need is groceries. I walk from home to the feeding program in about 30 minutes. I say you goodbye for now, hoping you enjoy hearing about me.
With much love,
Felipe Alejandro Hernandez Nix
