My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiche is always a challenge.

Hello, my name is Cristian Tomas Leodan Suy Sicajau. It is a pleasure to tell you a little about me through this letter. I was born on November 12, 2021. By the grace of God, I am a healthy 4-year-old boy. I am in Preschool this year. I enjoy playing toy cars and painting drawings. My favorite color is blue and I love cats. The fried chicken is the most delicious meal. I am under my mother´s care. She is Maria Elena Sicajau Tiniguar, and she is the only one who supports our family.  My mother earns a living embroidering typical blouses and she raises and sell hens. My father’s name is Oscar Suy Panjoj. He legally recognized me, however, he abandoned our family about six years ago. My family attends the Catholic Church. By the grace of God, my family is in good health.

We live in our own adobe house. There are two rooms with tin sheet roof and concrete floor without running water or electricity. We carry water in plastic jars from our grandmother's house and use candles for lighting. At home, we have pigs, hens, a dog and a cat. Our greatest needs are groceries, clothing and shoes. I live about 45 minutes away from the program. I am grateful to be part of the feeding program. God bless you!
