My Story

Hello! I greet you in Jesus’ name and I hope you are doing very well. I am very happy to share a little bit about my life. I am Petrona Gomez Jimon, and I am 42 years old. I was born in Zacualpa, Quiche on May 25th, 1983. I live with my husband. His name is Ramiro Simaj Benito and we have 7 children. Four of them are boys and three are girls. About our health, one of my daughters is a girl with special needs because she was born with hand and foot abnormalities. I am a housewife and take care of my children, especially Norma, because she needs special attention. Unfortunately, my husband had intestinal surgery in 2024. Because of that he cannot exert himself very much and has difficulty working. Thanks to God, my son Miguel and my daughter Ana Cristina work to get some money for our needs. Miguel works as a day laborer, and sometimes my husband goes with him to help him. He earns 600.00Q = $78.26 per week. My daughter works as a maid, and she earns 800.00Q=$104.00 per month. We are a humble family, and we don't have any beds in our house; we sleep over wooden boards. We also don't have closets to store our clothes; we hang them on ropes to keep them tidy. We live in our own house; it is my husband´s house. We have two rooms and a separate kitchen. It is made of adobe walls, tin sheet roof, and concrete floor. Thanks to God, we have running water and electricity. We pay 60.00Q= $7.83 for the electricity per month and 250.00Q= $32.63 for the water per year.

We have some domestic animals such as hens and pigs. We are a family with low economic resources, and we have many needs. Some of them are groceries, corn, school supplies and clothes, so please pray for us. We believe Jesus can change our circumstances. I live 30 minutes away from the feeding program and I get there by walking. Thank you very much for taking your time to read my history.

Many blessings,

Petrona Gomez Jimon
