My Story

Hello! My name is Xhemila Skenderi. I am happy to share about myself while answering the questions that the new registration form of new widows/persons in need contains. I am 68 years old and my birthday is on October 29th 1957. I am now an elderly person and in this age, I face problems in my health. I control the blood pressure in the house and from time to time, I go to the clinic of our village or in the town for them to give me medication to keep it stabilized. My husband has passed away before two years. Our house is not in good condition and I am poor, living with low income. I live together with one of my sons who cares for me and supplies my needs. I used to work in agriculture before I retired and the pension is very small to cover all that I need. Without the help of my son and his support I cannot survive. My day is still filled with lots of things to do. I clean, wash our clothes and dishes in the house so I can be of help to my son. I also do the cooking for us and when he comes from working, he has his dinner ready and on the table. After finishing the housekeeping, I like to go outside the house and help my son, working together with him in our vegetable garden. I like to spend time working in the garden because all the ladies here do the same thing. We provide the vegetables ourselves and as much the land produces, as less is spent to buy groceries on the shop. I like to go to the shop and buy what we need, things that are needed for the day. My son does most of the shopping though. He goes to the town near our village to buy groceries or what we are not able to buy in the shop of our village. Usually, while being out, I meet with my friends and we chat for quite a bit. We meet while we are shopping, or out working in the fields. When I am inside the house, I like to sit and watch the news of the day in our national television, so I can be informed what is happening. I have several of my friends that have suggested me to come to the church of Kotodesh and while frequenting the meetings for ladies and church services. I got also the opportunity to be registered in the program of Adopt a Child. I am thankful to the program for the provision of food I receive every two months as well as for the spiritual care offered to us from the pastor and his wife, while they do lots of activities for children and widows. Thank you from my heart and God bless you!
