My Story

Dueñas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Duenas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

Hello, my name is Roberth Jhoandry Juárez Gutiérrez. I am so happy to greet you through this short biography and tell you a little bit about myself. I am so happy to be a part of the feeding program now. I have enjoyed going so much, and the food is always so good. I am so grateful to be able to participate in the activities and learn about Jesus and how much He loves us. It is always so much fun to play with the other kids and the teachers are so nice. I have one older sister who also goes to the program. Her name is Daniyanci Mery Roose. My dad’s name is Fabricio Arcadio Juárez Hernández. He is a construction worker in Antigua. He is the one who provides for us financially, since my mom does not work outside the house. She is a stay-at-home mom. Her name is Rosmery Jaquelin Gutiérrez Hernández. She stays home to take care of me and my sister, and to take care of the housework. We live very close to the feeding program, so it takes about three minutes to walk to the program each week. We live in a very humble house. It is small, but it is what we need. It is made out of cinderblock walls, a tin roof, and finished concrete floors. We are very blessed because our house is our own property. My dad is the one who pays for the lights and water in our house. Sometimes we have to make the money stretch to cover our different expenses as a family. Sometimes it is hard to cover our schooling expenses because my dad’s work is not always constant. I go to school in pre-k, and I love learning. I also love going out to play hide and seek. My favorite hobby at home is drawing and coloring. I love the color yellow. It is so bright and happy. I also love cats. Sadly, we don’t have any cats or any other pets. Maybe one day I will be able to have a pet cat. My favorite food to eat is pizza. It is so good! That is all from me for now.
