My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley. The village is inhabited by both Quiche Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish. Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe. Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other small-town tradesmen. It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area. Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high and the children are very needy. 

I thank you in advance for reading my letter. My name is Christopher Yosue Alvarado Barrera, and I want to tell you a little about me. I was born on November 28, 2016, so I am 8 years old now. I tell you that I have vision problems, and I am under a medical treatment; I hope my situation blimproves. I am in 2^nd grade this year, and I do my homework after school. I love playing soccer in my free time, and I enjoy eating fried chicken. My favorite color is light blue, and I like dogs and cats. I only have two brothers. I attend the Catholic Church with my family. My father’s name is Erick Wotzbely Alvarado Santos, and he works as a baker; he also raises and sells pigs. My mother’s name is Darey Rosmery Barrera, and she works as a teacher; she also works in a supermarket. I would like to ask for your prayers for my mom because she suffers from high blood pressure and is under medical treatment.

We live in our own house, and we share it with my grandparents. The house has five rooms and a kitchen. The house is made of concrete block with a tin sheet roof and concrete floor. We have running water and electricity services. We have hens, pigs and a dog at home. We live 30 minutes away from the feeding program, and we take a microbus to get there. We are a humble family, and our frequent needs are clothes and shoes; please keep us in your prayers. I tell you that my maternal aunt, Elsa Maria, helped me to give my information to LW evangelism team, and she accompanies me to the program. I say goodbye to you for now.
