My Story

Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiché, Guatemala.  Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world.  Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen.  The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks.  In the past few years electricity and water have become available to most people in the area - however, indoor plumbing is very rare.  Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labors.  Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value.  Life in Quiché is always a challenge.

Hello, I am so glad to have this opportunity to share my information through this. My full name is Maria Alejandra Meletz Tzoy. I was born on March 13, 2022, and I am 3 years old. I am not attending school yet.  I stay at home and I like to play football, with my dolls and toy dishes. The color I love the most is pink, and my favorite animal is the cat. I love eating creole hen broth. I have three brothers and five sisters. I am so happy because my parents, siblings and I are in good health. My father makes a living as a farmer and day laborer. His name is Santiago Meletz Morales. My mother does the household work; she also raises hens to sell and help with the home expenses. Her name is Maria Isabel Tzoy Tzoc.

I am very happy to be registered in the Chixocol feeding program; I walk 15 minutes and my mother accompanies me there. My family is in good health. We are members of the Liberty Church from LW. The house in which we live belongs to my maternal grandfather. My grandparents and uncle also live with us. There are two adobe rooms. The roof is made of tile and a cement floor. We have a corridor and we use it as a kitchen. We have running water and electricity; my father and grandfather pay for those services. Our biggest needs are groceries and clothes. I have to say goodbye now, but I want to thank you so much for reading about me today. I pray to God to bless you wherever you go!

Lots of love,

Maria Alejandra Meletz Tzoy
