Dueñas
Guatemala
Child
Dueñas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Duenas is quiet and sometimes difficult.
Hello! My name is Evelyn Mariela Díaz Farfán. I am eight years old, and I am so excited to greet you and tell you a little bit about myself today. I was born on May 24, 2017. I love cats and the color purple. I am in second grade now, and it is going well, thanks be to God. I work very hard in school and afterschool to do my best on my assignments. I have two sisters. One is older than me and one is younger. Their names are Maria and Kimberly. They are going to the feeding program with me. We live very close, so we walk to the program each week. It takes about ten minutes to walk there. My favorite meal to eat is spaghetti, and I love when they serve it at the program. It is always so good. I live in a small house with my family, as well as with some aunts and uncles and my grandmother. Our house is owned by my dad, but we share part of it with my other family. We have running water and electricity for lights. Our house is made of sheet metal, and we have a concrete floor. We have been very blessed as a family. God has kept us in good health by His grace. My parents work very hard to take care of us and cover all our expenses as a family. My dad is a construction worker. He is the one who provides for us financially with what he earns. My mom does not work, but she stays at home to take care of me and my sisters and do the housework. She also works very hard. Her name is María Marisol Farfán López. My dad’s name is Marvin Estuardo Hernández. We also have some pets at home. We have three dogs and three cats. The cats are my favorite because they are my favorite animal in the world. One of our needs is a wardrobe and a bed, but we are so grateful that God provides for us in wonderful ways, even when we have to stretch the money, God always makes a way. I am so happy that I get to go to the program with my sisters and enjoy the many blessings we receive through Living Water Adopt-A-Child. I say goodbye now, but I hope you have enjoyed reading my information. I send much love and many blessings to you and your loved ones.
With much love,
Evelyn Mariela Díaz Farfán
