Chixocol
Guatemala
Child
Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years, electricity and water have become available to most people in the area – however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labor. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiche is always a challenge.
Many blessings to all of you! I am Fernando Alexander Garcia Tzoy, and I want to share a little about my life with you. I was born on February 24, 2021. I do not attend school because I am too young for it. I am four years old. Luckily, I am a healthy boy. I have a lot of fun playing with my toy cars. My favorite color is blue. I love having scrambled eggs and rice for my meals. My favorite animals are doves. I am grateful to the Lord because my family is doing well. We attend the Catholic Church. My father’s name is Rudy Alexander Garcia Tzoy. He works hard as a farmer and day laborer to support our family. Our priorities are groceries. My mother’s name is Marina Griselda Tzoy Ruiz. She keeps busy doing the chores.
My mother also raises and sells hens to contribute to the expenses. At the moment, I only have two sisters. My family and I live with my paternal grandparents in their house. My father with the household expenses. The house is made of adobe walls with metal sheet roofs and concrete floors. It has five rooms, a separate kitchen, electricity, and running water. I am so happy because I am already enrolled in the feeding program. To get there, we usually walk for fifteen minutes from our house, although it is much faster if we take a minibus because it only takes us five minutes. I will leave you now, but I wish you all the best. See you later!
Sincerely yours,
Fernando Alexander Garcia Tzoy
