Chixocol
Guatemala
Child
Chixocol, where your child lives, is a very small village nestled in a mountain valley in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this state is very difficult and somewhat isolated from the outside world. Most families live in one-room adobe houses with dirt floors and a small attached kitchen. The extremely poor live in houses made of corn stalks. In the past few years, electricity and water have become available to most people in the area – however, indoor plumbing is very rare. Most of the families are farmers or shepherds and live off the fruits of their labor. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider it of value. Life in Quiche is always a challenge.
Hello! How are you doing? My name is Maria Sofia Garcia Mucia, and my heart is overflowing with happiness because I will share my information with you. I hope you find it engaging. I am seven years old and I am doing well. However, I was born with a slight strabismus problem in one of my eyes. I was born on June 1, 2018. I am in first grade. My favorite pastimes are drawing and coloring. I am a big fan of unicorns. My favorite color is pink. I love eating fried chicken. I am an only child and live with my mother, Maria Estela Mucia Barrera. She dedicates her full time to taking care of me.
Please pray for her health. She suffers from gastritis and helicobacter pylori. She was under treatment, but that did not work. Unfortunately, I do not have my father with me because he traveled to the United States when I was a baby. His name is Israel Garcia Mendez. However, he is in touch with us daily and supports our needs, like food. He works hard at a restaurant as a cook.
My mother and I live with my paternal grandparents at my father’s house. It is made of bricks with a concrete roof and a granite floor. It has four rooms, a separate kitchen, electricity, and running water. We raise a few chickens and cows. We also have one dog and one cat as pets at home. We live about 20 minutes away from the feeding program. My mother and I usually take a minivan to get there. I am glad to be part of the LW-feeding program because my mother and I can also learn about Jesus at Liberty Church. Thank you so much for reading my letter!
Kisses and hugs,
Maria Sofia Garcia Mucia
