Jocotenango, where your child lives, is in the state of Sacatepequez, Guatemala and is a suburb of Antigua. It is an urban environment and is inhabited by both Quiche Mayans and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). Most of the children attend school, but financial hardship affects many families and forces most of the children to leave after the sixth grade. Only one out of ten children finish high school. Children in this area face temptations from gangs and drugs.
Hello, I hope you are well! I send you many blessings in the name of Jesus. I am so happy to be able to tell you a little bit about myself today. My name is Emily Mariana Chavec Chiquito. I was born on January 28, 2021. I am 4 years old now and I am in preschool. I thank God that my family and I are in good health. My dad’s name is RubenDavid Chavec Fajardo. He works as a construction subcontractor. He works to provide for my family financially. My mom is named Odilia Maribel Chiquitó Burrion. She is a stay-at-home mom. The house we live in is my grandmother’s house, but she lets us live in it with her without charging us extra. My dad just pays her for the lights and water each month. It is a very humble made of cinderblock walls, a metal roof, and concrete floors. We use one room for my family. I also have a brother who goes to the program as well. His name is Dilan Daniel. We all go to church together at Liberty Church in Jocotenango. We live about thirty minutes away from the feeding program walking, but we usually go on the motorcycle. Our biggest need as a family would be medical and dental assistance, however we are so blessed, and my parents are especially grateful for the opportunity for me to be a part of the feeding program. Now, I want to tell you a little more about me. I love playing with my dolls. I am very healthy, and I love eating good food. My favorite foods are eggs, chicken, bread, and bananas. I love the color yellow. My favorite animal is the dog. I have one puppy of my own and he’s so cute! I love being a part of Liberty church and learning about Jesus and the stories of the Bible. I have to say goodbye now, but I want to thank you so much for reading about me today. I send you many blessings and hugs from afar. May God bless you and keep you always.
With much love,
Emily Mariana Chavec Chiquitó
