My Story

Nueva Esperanza, which means New Hope, is located in a slum area of Guatemala City, Guatemala. An extremely poor area, our program is squeezed in among the shanty dwellings built over an old city dump. Many houses in this area are without toilets or running water and are assembled with scrap wood, tin sheets and cardboard. Zone 5, where Nueva Esperanza is located, is considered one of the most dangerous areas of Guatemala City. It is controlled by gangs and drug pushers. Robberies and murders are common in this area. Public education is available - however, many cannot afford it.

My name is Carlos Emilio de Jesus Morales Chang, and this is my information. I was born on May 16, 2014, so I am 11 years old. I am in good health, and I am attending 5th grade this year. In my free time, I color my drawings and play soccer and with my toys. I like cats, and my favorite color is blue. I really love eating pizza. I have two brothers and one sister, and one of them is also registered at the feeding program. We walk for 8 minutes to arrive at the program. As a family, we are attending the Catholic Church. My parents are good people, and last February, they took in an elderly woman to live with us since she no longer has a family. They say they want to bless others like we have been blessed through Living Water Ministry.

My father’s name is Juan Carlos Morales Larios, and he works in a glass store to cover our needs. My mother’s name is Vilma Jeanneth Chang, and she works in a textile factory to help with the income. We live in our own house, and it has two rooms and a kitchen. It is made of concrete block and wood with a tin sheet roof and concrete floor; please pray for us since my parents want to change the wood because it is not in good condition. We have running water and electricity services. We have one cat as a pet. I tell you that my oldest brother, Cristian, helped me with this letter. May God bless you!

Yours truly
