My Story

Zacualpa is a small but busy village in a mountain valley.  The village is inhabited by both Quiché Indians and Ladinos (those with mixed European ancestry). The prevalent language is Spanish.  Families in this village live in one or two room homes generally constructed of either wood or adobe.  Although many of the people are farmers, the village contains several small specialized stores, a body repair shop for buses, mechanics, plumbers and many other small-town tradesmen.   It also has a large open-air market which serves much of the area.  Even with all of this, the poverty level is very high and the children are very needy.

I greet you in the name of Jesus and I hope you like to read my personal information. My name is Pablo Ronaldo Lux Chingo. I am a healthy 11-year-old boy and I am studying the 4th grade at school. My hobby is to play soccer and do the homework from classes. I like blue color, and I love lions. My favorite food is hen broth. I have one brother and two sisters. My sister Ashly is registered in the Feeding Program and we walk along with my mother or father 30 minutes to arrive there. Sometimes, we travel by moto-taxi (tuk-tuk) and we are there in fifteen minutes. I am thankful because my parents are in good health, and their names are Rosa Chingo de la Cruz and Jose Lux Garcia. My mother dedicates her time to taking care of the family and she does the chores at home while my father works as a farmer and day laborer. He is the only one that sustains us financially, but sometimes, it is so difficult to cover every expense because we are a humble family. Our frequent needs are groceries and clothing. We are members of Jerusalem Christian Church.

We live in my father`s house and it consists of two rooms and one kitchen. The walls are made of block. We have a cement roof and ceramic floors. We have running water and electricity. My father pays for the services. We have cows, hens, one cat, one dog and one pig at home, but we would like to have some chicks because we have enough space in the house for them. I hope you are blessed when my letter reaches you. I send you all the best!

Yours truly,

Pablo Ronaldo Lux Chingo
