My Story

Receive many greetings from Guatemala City, in the name of Jesus. My full name is Herman Alexander Alvarado Chan, and I feel lucky to tell you about myself by means of this letter. I am a healthy 10-year-old boy, and I have attended the feeding program for about one year. I like learning new Bible texts and praying before having my meals. My family and I are grateful for the spiritual guidance, medical assistance, and other blessings we have received from this organization. May the Lord bless you all as richly as you have many children like me! I tell you that I am in 4^th grade at school, and I like the hot weather. I usually help my mother to do some household chores like making my bed. I want to use this opportunity to beg you to pray for my parents since they are not doing well. My mother had an appendix surgery last year. During this procedure, doctors found a mass in her intestine and removed it.

Unfortunately, she developed a hernia from straining herself too much after the surgery. That happened when she tried to stand up by herself. In addition, she got an intestine infection because the doctors did not put in abdominal drainage to prevent it. Her situation got worse, so she had to rush to the hospital looking for assistance. Nowadays, she continues going to the hospital for checkups. On May 28, she will know when the next surgery will be for the hernia and gallbladder, but she is worried about all that she has passed through. About my father, let me tell you that he suffered a left-sided facial stroke a few months ago. Thanks to the treatment that he follows, his condition is getting better.

He has paid for medical assistance by himself. He just started to work in a new place as a mail man and due to that, he is still not able to receive assistance at the Guatemalan Social Security. My mother contributes to the expenses with the income she gets from her modest convenience store. Despite ups and downs, we trust in God’s mercy and help. My family and I are members of ADULAM Christian Church. We received Jesus as our savior and because of his grace, we will be able to get in Heaven. Besides fellowship, the main thing which motivates us to attend this church is the support they provide to everybody, especially families in crisis. I would like to take part in the worship band of my church someday by playing the keyboard. It is time to say goodbye, but I appreciate you taking the time to read my information.
