My Story

Nueva Esperanza, which means New Hope, is located in a slum area of Guatemala City, Guatemala. An extremely poor area, our program is squeezed in among the shanty dwellings built over an old city dump. Many houses in this area are without toilets or running water and are assembled with scrap wood, sheet metal, and cardboard. Zone 5, where Nueva Esperanza is located, is considered one of the most dangerous areas of Guatemala City. It is controlled by gangs and drug pushers. Robberies and murders are common in this area. Public education is available - however, many cannot afford it.

Hello, my name is Rosario Anabelly López Vásquez. I feel very blessed to be able to greet you and tell you a little bit about myself today. I am 7 years old now. My birthday is June 26, 2018. I go to school in the first grade. I love playing with my dolls, watching TV, and coloring. My favorite color is red. I also love cats. We have one pet cat, and I love her so much. I thank God that I am in good health. My family is also well. Let me tell you a little bit about them. My mom’s name is Lilian Anabelly Vásquez Alonzo. She works as a house cleaner. My dad’s name is Cristian Daniel López Fajardo. He works as a warehouse packer. They both work hard to help support and provide for our family. I also have one sister, but she does not go to the program with me. As a family, we go to church a Holy Priest of Ars church. I enjoy going with my family. I also love going to the feeding program each week. We walk to get there, and it takes me about fifteen minutes. My favorite thing to eat is fried chicken. I also want to tell you a little bit about my house. I live with my parents and my sister in a small house. We have one room that we share and a small kitchen in that room. The walls are made of cinder block, the roof is tin, and the floor is concrete. We rent our house from our neighbor who owns it for 950 quetzales per month, or about $126. Our house is in a neighborhood where people choose to live because they don’t have a lot of money. We had to live here because we are a very needy family. We don’t have a lot, but we make it by. My dad pays for the rent and the utilities. My mom does what she can to help, but her job is not very stable. As a family, we would love to be able to get a stove for our home and a dresser. These are things that we pray God will provide in His own ways. I have to say goodbye for now, but I hope you have enjoyed learning about me! I hope you will keep me in your heart and in your prayers. I thank you for taking the time to consider me. I pray God will move the right person’s heart to decide to sponsor me. I send you many hugs and kisses.

Many blessings,
Rosario Anabelly López Vásquez
