Pasojoc

Pasojoc is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiche, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Pasojoc is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major corps. The Quiche Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiche - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.
My name is Jeimy Yadira Musia Us. I am so glad to greet you by this means, and I am so happy to share with you some news about my family and me. Thankfully, I am in good health. I was born on March 23rd, 2020. I am 5 years old, and I am not attending school yet due to my age. I stay at home, and I spend most of my time playing with my dolls. My favorite color is pink, I like dogs, and what I like to eat the most is egg with black beans. I feel so blessed to be part of the feeding program. My mother takes me there, and we walk 10 minutes.
Thankfully, my parents are in good health; my father works very hard to cover our needs. He is a day laborer, and he also gives rides in his own car to earn extra money. My mother works very hard at home, doing the chores, and looking after my two brothers and me. We are not attending any church yet, and some of our needs are groceries. We live in the house that belongs to my father. It is made of adobe walls, with tin sheet roof and a dirt floor; it has two rooms and a kitchen. We do not have running water, so we get it from our water spring that is about 10 minutes away, and we carry it with jars to our home. We do have electricity, and my father pays for this service monthly. At home, we have domestic animals like a hen and a cow. It is time to say goodbye, and I want you to know that my mother provided this information for my enrollment. Thank you for reading my letter. May God bless you, and I will be waiting to hear from you.
Kisses and Hugs,
Jeimy Yadira Musia Us
